The conference staff of NACURH 2009 Our Place in Time would like to award both a small and large school with the following four awards. Judging for these awards will be done by the conference staff and the winners will be announced during the closing ceremonies.
Most Spirited Delegation Award
The Most Spirited Delegation Award will be given to one small school and one large school delegation who have demonstrated exceptional spirit and leadership throughout the conference weekend.
This award will be based on:
- Delegates meeting and getting to know new people from other schools
- Originality in costumes and apparel that should unify the delegation and exemplify the theme
- Actively partaking in creative and appropriate cheers with other delegations in cheer designated zones.
- Visibility of spirit items such as flags, backpacks, foam hands, etc.
- Number of Programs submitted in relation to delegation size and number of Top 40 Programming Awards
- Participation in:
- Philanthropy Project
- YouTube Video Contest
- Roll Call
- Banner
- Display
Banner
Each delegation is encouraged to create a banner and bring it with them to the conference. The banner should relate to the conference theme as well as reference the delegation’s school. The school’s name and the conference theme must be made visible on the banner. The banner must also be made entirely out of recyclable material, may be no larger than 2.5’ wide X 4.5’ tall and must weigh less than four pounds. In order for a banner to be judged and given points towards the Most Spirited Delegation Award, three grommets must be placed across the top of the banner so it can be hung in our Student Union Memorial Center. Delegations are to turn in their banner to the conference staff at the time of check in.
Display
Each delegation will also be encouraged to create a display and bring it with them to the conference. The display should be a time capsule that represents the delegation’s school. This time capsule may be made out of anything, from a cardboard box to a clear, plastic cylinder/tube, so long as the contents of the capsule are made visible when the display is setup. The capsule may be no larger than 1’ X 1’ X 2’ and must weigh twenty pounds or less. In order for a display to be judged and given points towards the Most Spirited Delegation Award, delegations are to dropoff and setup their time capsule at the Gallagher Theatre in The Student Union Memorial Center by 8:00 am on Saturday, May 23. Displays will be judged on adherence to these guidelines as well as creativity and uniqueness.
Roll Call
Each region is encouraged to create a video roll call. It should encompass the theme of the conference as well as adequately represent the spirit and individuality of each region. The roll call is not to contain any profanity or slanderous language and is to adhere with all rules and regulations set forth by the NACURH policy book. The video is to last no longer than five minutes. Roll call will be judged on adherence to these guidelines as well as creativity and uniqueness.
YouTube Video Spirit Contest
Schools will be given the opportunity to get involved with the conference before they arrive, with an online You Tube spirit contest, hosted by the conference’s public relations committee. Schools from across the nation will be encouraged to submit 3-5 minute videotaped skits or features, demonstrating the spirit and personality of their schools and Residence Life. These videos will be uploaded to a drop box on the conference website, and will be posted on the website and YouTube for delegates from other universities to watch. The goal of the Video Spirit Contest is to boost knowledge about other universities and delegations, and also to offer a method for delegations to embrace NACURH months before they even arrive in Tucson. The competition will begin March 1 and will run until May 10. A winner will be announced at the closing ceremony of the conference.
Video Spirit Contest Guidelines
